Tamilrockers: Piracy group Tamilrockers turns nuisance for Tamil film industry. Find out how

A torrent website released in 2011, which was relatively unknown for initially uploading only Tamil films, has started to indulde in the distribution of illegal copyrighted content in other regional languages too. This piracy group has content of varied genres and types such as music, TV shows as well as movie snippets. They have been gaining seamless popularity among the netizens.

The torrent website, Tamilrockers, has made a threatening announcement that they will release a film ‘Garuda’ before its theatrical opening.

The movie ‘Garuda’ has a budget of Rs 300 crore. It stars action hero Aditya, and his team has waiting for the Diwali release of the film. The production house of film claims that this is going to be a megahit on the screens.

The size of this piracy group Tamilrockers is still a secret. They are similar to Pirate Bay, where people can download illegal content at no cost. The extend of their operation has spread worldwide and is not limited to Indian subcontinent.

Karthi seems to be the mastermind behind this piracy agency, as per reports. And in March 2008, the Kerala cops arrested 3 people that were associated with Tamilrockers. The cops made these arrests in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. However, the threat of this torrent piracy agency has become a big headache as it leaked the Mohanlal hit film Pulimurugan and are threatening to share the debut film of Pranav Mohanlal ‘Aadhi’ soon.

With the help of these illegal activities, Tamilrockers seem to have made around Rs 1 crore, media reports said. Site cloning is quite common and this has accelerated after the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Statistics say that India alone has around 6.5 billion web visitors, who log on to these piracy sites.

However, bootlegging agencies, such as Tamilrockers, claim to operate at loss. And claim that they make no income after spending on maintenance of the website.
