This power has made me see a world that could be better for all of us!
In an in-depth trailer, The Power is illuminating future audiences by zapping from the pages of the renowned science fiction book by Naomi Alderman. This book-turned-series ‘The Power’,boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes actors Toni Collette and John Leguizamo.
The trailer opens with Rob (Leguizamo) and Jos (Auli’l Cravalho) in the car, completely rocking the classic “Check The Rhime” by A Tribe Called Quest, when the radio shorts out and sparks fly everywhere. Jos teases her dad, saying it’s because his audio and music tastes are outdated, but Rob brings up a recent strange microwave fire, giving us a better idea of what’s actually going on.
Afterwards, we are sent to Nigeria, where Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh), a reporter, is covering the tale of a teenage girl who can shoot electricity out of her hands.
The mystery deepens as it is learned that a large number of young women from around the world have suddenly acquired the same electrifying power.
Check out reactions to the trailer here:
One wrote, “Amazon Prime is doing a pretty great job in developing adult themed mature superhero storylines. First The Boys and now The Power. Truly hyped!”
Second wrote,” the book is BRILLIANT, one of my favorites ever. really excited to see this and hope they capture the darker elements of the book and don’t reduce it to uwu female empowerment (though the empowerment aspects of the book were amazing too)”
While some, like Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez (Collette), believe that the girls’ remarkable abilities are positive, others, like Daniel Dandon (Josh Charles), think that the teenagers should be imprisoned because of their ability.
Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, Nico Hiraga as Ryan, Zrinka Cvitei as Tatiana Moskalev, and Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke will all appear in the ten-episode television series version of The Power.
As it follows a group of adolescent girls who have their lives revolutionised after realising they can conduct electricity with the snap of a finger, the programme promises to transport viewers to every part of the world.
About the book:
The Power is a book within a book that tells the story of an imagined time in history when women all around the world discovered and shared the ability to produce electricity with their hands. Five thousand years after the power arises and revolution reorganises the planet into a matriarchy, Neil Adam Armon sends the text to another author named Naomi. In this work of historical fiction, Allie, Roxy, Margot, Jocelyn, and Tunde navigate a world that is fast changing around them.
The Power will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
