The BBC’s Arielle Free has shared that she’ll be back on the Radio 1 airwaves after a dramatic on-air bust-up with co-host Charlie Hedges, 37.
The 36-year-old was suspended last month after her behaviour as a guest on Charlie’s Ibiza Dance Anthems show.
Charlie’s show was broadcast live from Ibiza with the Scottish DJ sounding worse for wear, which she joked about claiming she sounded ‘great’.
She then critiqued Horsegiirl’s My Barn, My Rules as Charlie played it, declaring she ‘hates’ the song.
Arielle did apologise but doubled down on her comments leaving her fellow presenter unimpressed who then kicked her off the show.
It’s understood the BBC suspended Arielle, who has been a Radio 1 DJ since 2019, for a temporary break – but now it appears she’s back on air.
When she returned to the airwaves from 8pm to 10pm on Monday, August 7, for Radio 1 Relax, Arielle didn’t share any information on the Ibiza situation.
She made a vague comment about playing tunes to ‘take your mind off’ any stressful situation which ‘we can all appreciate’ but appeared to be referencing Scottish Higher exams.
The DJ set was framed as a ‘revision’ session for anyone studying late and brushed over her week-long removal from the BBC.
A statement released to Metro.co.uk by the BBC read: ‘Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously.’
Taking to Instagram to share her return Arielle wrote: ‘Tonight on your radio its all things chilled in the run up to tomorrows Scottish Highers, advanced highers and national 5’s exam results. A time I remember all too well ♥️’

Arielle: ‘Hi, yeah I sound great don’t I?’
Charlie: ‘You’ve sounded better, but it’s ok.’
Arielle: ‘Well, this is what happened. You play on Friday and you play on Saturday and then your voice just goes.
‘Can I be honest with you Charlie?… I expected better of you…’
Charlie: ‘What? To sound better, like you?’
Arielle: ‘I don’t like this song.’
Charlie: ‘Oh really?’
Arielle: ‘I hate it! I’m sorrrryy.’
Charlie: ‘Sorry, I’m taking your mic down, it’s my show, Arielle. Have some respect, please.
‘See you later. Get out of here.’
She shared a snap of herself as a teenager before a new picture of herself in the studio ready for her return to Radio 1.
Arielle continued: ‘The track selection tonight is designed to help take your mind away from how ever you may be feeling right now. So expect some soul soothers, mood boosters and loads more yumminess.
‘Two whole hours of one big musical hug.’
Explaining the picture of her childhood self she added: ‘Plus here’s a gift of the only high school picture my mum I ever bought because I somehow mastered having terrible ones done every other year 😂 Come join!’
While Arielle did not address the suspension drama, her comments were filled with supportive messages from people excited for her to be back on air.
