MQ: Summer Stage – opening with concerts by EsRAP

The MuseumsQuartier is starting the summer months with an opening weekend from May 25th to 29th. The summer festival begins on Thursday, May 25, including concerts by EsRAP & Gasmac Gilmore and Clara Luzia, free entry to the museums and exhibition halls (from 5 p.m.) and artistic projects in the courtyards. On Friday, May 26th the music performance “MONSTERFRAU” will take place on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th May. “tecnOkitchen”.

In addition, the permanent green stage in the MQ Haupthof presented, where different artistic formats take place throughout the summer.

Summer Festival – Thursday May 25th

It starts with free entry Architecture Center Vienna, Leopold Museum, mummies (each 5-7 p.m.) and Kunsthalle Vienna (5pm-9pm).

At 6.30 p.m. there will also be a voguing performance by the mummies. The dance phenomenon has its origins in the ballrooms of Harlem.

At 7.30 p.m. the work “converter” by Judith Fegerl will open – she arranges around four meter high sculptures made of steel and photovoltaic modules.

Take over at 7:45 p.m EsRAP & Gasmac Gilmore the stage. The music of EsRAP, the siblings Esra and Enes Özmen, is characterized by the mixture of Turkish/German rap combined with modern beats and traditional arabesque. With Gasmac Gilmore they brought a top-class band on board as a musical extension towards “Balkan Sounds”.

This will be followed at 9:15 p.m Clara Luzia with her current band, whose sound doesn’t shy away from rock clichés like guitar and drum solos, but still stays true to an indie ethos.

MQ Summer Season – Opening Weekend

Friday May 26th
Body and movement as a choreographic musical instrument can be seen at 7 p.m. during the intervention by MONSTERFRAU aka Lena Wicke-Aengenheyster.

Saturday May 27th
The cultural club VLAN (Vienna Local Area Network) streams contemporary (non-)club music live from the summer stage as an internet radio station from 7 p.m. with a focus on the empowerment of marginalized groups.

Sunday 28 & Monday 29 May
At the Cook Art Party tECnOkitchenstarting at 7 p.m., the hosts “Inessa Contessa”, Eddie Dunjua and Tomas Zierhofer-Kin let the visitors dance together with guests into a possible common world of tomorrow, on May 28th with “Benschi” and “DJ Kjaer” , on May 29th with “Cucina Alchimia” and “DJ Bernd Amann”.

MQ summer stage & summer program

The new, walkable and green stage in the main courtyard, designed by the “OpenFields” team of architects, is all about “MQ goes Green” and is a further step towards a climate-neutral and climate-friendly MuseumsQuartier. Durable, flexible materials and climate-resilient plants are used, which thrive in the specific urban environment and green the stage more and more intensively over the course of the summer.

From May 25th to the end of September, various event formats are planned daily from 7 p.m. under the motto “MQ Live”, such as court music concerts, artist talks, performances, discussion rounds or lectures.
