A man charged with murder in Clinton told a Hinds County judge Friday that he wasn’t sure yet if he would testify in his own defense.Attorneys for William “Polo” Edwards began calling witnesses that included two members of law enforcement. Autopsy photos were shown to the jury, including a picture of a bullet that was recovered from Davis’ chest. Robinson said one of the bullets that struck Davis destroyed his aorta.Melissa DeBerry, a forensic scientist from the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory, was next to take the stand. She testified about the bullets that were recovered and said investigators never recovered the handgun used in the fatal shooting.After the state rested, defense attorneys asked Judge Faye Peterson for a directed verdict, arguing that prosecutors did not meet the burden of proof. The judge rejected the motion. The defense called three police officers to testify, including Officer Robert Watts, with Capitol Police, who collected evidence from the truck Edwards was driving when it was recovered in New Orleans. Watts testified earlier for the state. Watts said he collected gunshot residue from the vehicle.Clinton police Detective Keith Burnett also testified. He said Shadow Robinson, the prosecution’s star witness whose home was the scene of the shooting, told Burnett that Davis went to the pantry before he answered the door when Edwards shot him. Burnett said he wasn’t sure if Davis was looking for a gun. The detective said Robinson told him and another officer that there was not beef beef between Davis and Edwards. The trial began with jury selection Monday. The prosecution’s star witness was Shadow Robinson, who testified that she saw Edwards kill Davis. The shooting took place at her home on Hannah Drive. Robinson said she had a romantic relationship with Edwards until she learned that he was married with children. She said he then stalked her and was extremely jealous of other men in her life, including Davis, who she said was a friend.
