At the invitation of the European Broadcasting Union, the Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine has prepared some material highlighting the importance of radio in war.
First proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, February 13 is widely recognised World Radio Day (WRD).
Themed ‘Radio and Peace’, the material for this year’s edition is being played on radio stations all around the world and explaining how radio is not just a provider of information, but very often also saves lives. Ukrainian radio presenters also shared their own experiences of working in wartime conditions.
Radio has always been a powerful medium and remains the most widely consumed medium on a global level since it has the unique ability to reach out to the widest audience. According to various international reports, radio continues to be one of the most trusted and used media in the world.
